How NCIS: New Orleans season 5 is keeping one mystery alive

NCIS: New Orleans season 4 premiere

As we move closer to NCIS: New Orleans season 5 returning with new episodes on January 8, there’s certainly a lot to look forward to! To be specific here, at the top of the list is getting an opportunity to see Dwayne Pride try to get vengeance over some of what happened at the end of the fall finale.

For those who need some sort of refresher into some of that, remember this: Pride’s father is dead. This happened at the end of a long, crazy saga involving a mysterious voice, one that was ordering Scott Bakula’s character around and forcing him to try and follow orders. If he didn’t, both Cassius and Loretta Wade would’ve been in danger.

In looking beyond the fall finale, though, we’re seeing CBS do everything they can to be cryptic about what’s coming on the next new episode. They’ve kept any potential resolution out of the promos and, to go along with that, they’re even keeping the guest cast for this episode under wraps. (On the press site, they’ve got them listed as “TBD.”) Does this mean that we’re seeing a familiar face from the past show up? Maybe, or potentially it’s a well-known guest star that they don’t want to spoil in the past.

What we know at the moment is that there are certainly plenty of people within the NCIS: New Orleans world who want Dwayne Pride dead and may stop at nothing in order to ensure that it happens. He’s a guy who, because of his position and some of the work that he’s done, has made a number of different enemies. The irony here is that he recently took on a different position that, in theory, would’ve gotten him more out of the line of fire. Yet, he now seems to be in just as much danger as he’s ever been.

Let’s close with this question…

Is this the best midseason cliffhanger in the history of NCIS: New Orleans? We’re starting to think that it could be — it’s close to even matching the excitement of the cliffhanger at the end of season 4, which had Pride’s life directly on the line. (At least we weren’t worried there about his face — the show wasn’t going to kill off the main character, were they?)
