If you look at the videos below, you can see some teasers featuring the likes of Barbara Kean, Edward Nygma, and then also Selina Kyle. The point of these teasers seems to be really simple — to give you a sense as to what certain characters are going to be at the start of the season and what their philosophies are about the state of Gotham at present. Let’s just put it this way, for those wondering — it’s not going well. At the start of the season, the entire city is going to be in a certain degree of peril, thanks mostly to the fact that Jeremiah detonated a good chunk of the city and there is no longer any law or order. There is going to be a lot of chaos, and that’s probably going to lead to some really exciting conflicts.

Let’s be clear about one thing: The present state of the city is going to be horrible for some of the characters. But, at the same time, it’s going to be delightful for some of us as viewers. This is a real opportunity to explore the world of the show in disarray and give all of the characters exciting material. For example, we’re going to have a chance to see Barbara try to pick up the pieces after the Ra’s al Ghul storyline last year. Meanwhile, Nygma is really close to being the Riddler from the Batman comics and we’re going to see a far more evolved version of Selina Kyle. Will Selina be somewhat morally ambiguous? That’s what we hope, mostly because we like Catwoman as a character when she sometimes tows the line between good and evil.

At the end of the series finale, you’re going to be seeing Batman come more to fruition — there is an epic time jump of several years, and that’s a long-enough period of time in order to see everyone discover a completely new version of themselves. It’s going to be exciting, and at the same time absolutely appropriate for what we know Batman to be.
