CNN New Year’s Eve 2019 start time; Andy Cohen, Don Lemon, & more

CNN New Year's Eve

For those of you excited to watch CNN New Year’s Eve 2019you’re not alone — this is our personal favorite New Year’s Eve broadcast, and watching and discussing it has become an annual tradition. It’s informative at times and ridiculous at others — the best thing about it is watching people who have to be serious most of the year let loose and have a little bit of fun. This includes Anderson Cooper, Brooke Baldwin, and Don Lemon — these three have been the trio to really keep this show going for us for the better part of the past few years.

For the second straight year, you’re going to have a chance to see Andy Cohen of Watch What Happens Live! join Cooper in New York City, where the two will be anchoring most of the festivities. Meanwhile, Baldwin and Lemon will be holding down the fort for viewers in the Central Time Zone — there’s a reasonably good chance that Lemon will be tipsy by the time the clock strikes midnight there.

CNN’s broadcast is in some ways a marathon, but it’s a fairly-delightful one at the same time. The coverage officially kicks off at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, and you’ll probably get a chance to see all sorts of fun stuff over the hours that follow. You can check it out wherever you watch CNN, and it is one of the only broadcasts on New Year’s Eve that goes more or less straight through with very few breaks for local programming. It’s an experience from start to finish, largely because you’re throwing people out into cold, at-times imperfect conditions. They suffer at times, but they find a way to get through it.

This show has evolved a little bit over the years — this is the second straight year without Kathy Griffin, who famously co-hosted the special for many years before a very noteworthy series of headlines last year. We do think that there were some really notable moments in 2018, but this is really a chance for everyone to find their groove and their comfort level. 2018 was almost a trial to see if the Cohen / Cooper combination would work. Now that we know it does, they can probably experiment and have a little bit more fun! The goal here should remain the same: Try to push Anderson Cooper out of his element as much as humanly possible.
