The Affair season 4

The past year has been a rather tumultuous one when it comes to The Affairmost notably when it comes to the exit of Ruth Wilson.

To say that there have been headlines surrounding Wilson’s exit is somewhat of an understatement. After all, we are talking here about someone who publicly said on TV that she was not allowed to talk about her reason for departing the Showtime drama. There had been questions surrounding pay parity, mostly because of some comments she made in the past about making less than her male co-stars. Yet, this may not have been the reason for her eventual exit.

Nonetheless, this is a conversation that one of her co-stars in Dominic West is likely going to continue to be asked about in some capacity. He is the star of the new Les Miserables series over on BBC One, but in speaking about The Affair and parity via the Radio Times, he made it clear that he “never [asks] what the money is on a show. It was more a question of if I wanted to do it.”

With that being said, West noted that Wilson’s comments “woke me up to the issue. I never realized the disparity and the injustice [of the situation].” If nothing else, it seems like this issue has been relatively educational to him on some level and caused him to potentially think more about finances when taking jobs.

As we look ahead now to the future of The Affair, it is clear that West will be essential to almost everything with the series. He and Maura Tierney are the only two members of the show’s core four who are going to be around presumably as regulars. They are going to anchor the remainder of Noah and Helen’s journey; meanwhile, we are also going to venture into the future in order to learn more as to what’s going on with an older version of Joanie.

For the final season, The Affair is looking to be a little bit experimental in some of its storytelling — and even though Wilson is sadly no longer a part of the show, we do hope that they find a way in which to honor her. She was such a critical person within this world that it would be a shame if she was forgotten.
