CarterMatt Awards 2018 results: Grey’s Anatomy star Caterina Scorsone wins Underrated Actress!
Welcome to the CarterMatt Awards results! Hundreds of thousands of you have voted over the course of the past several weeks in a number of different categories; in this piece, we’re discussing in full Underrated Actress!
The criteria for this category has always been the same, as the goal here is to recognize performers who, for one reason or another, do not often receive some of the love that they deserve. The nominees here have been given any love from either the Golden Globes or the Emmys in the past twelve months, yet are very much deserving of it! Some of them may be shut out because of their shows being ignored; on other occasions, it may because long-running shows are often cast to the wayside.
What’s so interesting about the category this year is that it really came down to two different actresses from the same show in Grey’s Anatomy — and it’s pretty rare within the CarterMatt Awards that we have have two performers from the same show nominated in a single category! For almost the entirety of the past several weeks, Sarah Drew and Caterina Scorsone have gone head to head in a heated battle, distancing themselves far from the pack. Fans of both women deserve a lot of recognition for fighting so hard in order to give their favorite the title.
In the end, though, there could only be one winner; here, it’s Caterina Scorsone. The actress behind Amelia managed to win with a margin of around 2% and a few hundred votes — just to give you a good sense as to how close it really was. This is not the first time that Scorsone has taken home this award, though last year it went to Fear the Walking Dead star Alycia Debnam-Carey. (Past winners also include Candice Patton of The Flash.)
There are a number of reasons why Scorsone has been able to attract a devoted following, with some of it stemming from the sheer amount of heart that she brings to this part. She makes sure constantly that Amelia is a fighter, someone who never gives up and someone who also is discovery new things about herself. The Betty storyline this season has been an opportunity for growth for her, as it has provided her a whole new means in order to help other people. Amelia does at times bring a good bit of comedy to the Grey’s Anatomy world, but Caterina really shines in some of the intense, dramatic scenes that she’s had over the years.
When you consider the variety of content that Scorsone has brought to the show, in addition to the quality of her work, it’s pretty clear that her status as underrated is more or less a no-brainer.
