Midnight, Texas season 3 still possible … just not at NBC

Midnight, Texas season 2

While it’s clear at this point that Midnight, Texas season 3 won’t be happening at NBC, there’s still some hope elsewhere.

According to a recent report coming in via Deadline, producing studio Universal Television is still going to be doing what they can to bring the Charlaine Harris adaptation back for another season — while NBC isn’t bringing it back, that’s not stopping them. The question that you have to wonder here is mostly if another outlet out there will be interested.

At this point, it’s clear that we’re in an era where anything is possible. There are a lot of networks out there who don’t want to take a chance on completely new programs, and with that, acquiring other properties is a little more palatable. with Midnight, Texas in particular, we wonder if there’s a sentiment that so much of its performance in season 2 was based on either a terrible timeslot or a long wait between seasons. Maybe at another network, including a Syfy or a USA, it could actually generate good numbers on a different night of the week. We mention these two just because they are other NBCUniversal properties and with that, it makes sense for them to be considered. (We anticipate that there would be a smaller pool of viewers on cable than network television, but that could be offset by Midnight, Texas airing on a different night of the week.)

So what are the chances of this actually happening? It’s a longshot, but we would’ve told you the same thing about Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Lucifer, or Designated Survivor, which all managed to be saved this year after being canceled elsewhere. It’s never going to be altogether likely that a canceled show is able to find a home somewhere else just because there are so many different hoops that have to be jumped through — you need another network that believes in you, let alone a way to make finances work. One thing we’ll go ahead and say is this: While we understand the enthusiasm of everyone to try and push the show to Netflix, remember that there are plenty other fish in the sea…

If nothing else, consider all of this more incentive to check out the Midnight, Texas finale live when it airs a little bit later in the week. This is one of the best ways in which to make an impact that helps the series out.
