Floribama Shore season 3 renewal: The case for one at MTV

Floribama Shore

Even though we have not made it to the end of season 2 just yet, we don’t think that it’s too late to start thinking about a Floribama Shore season 3. After all, this has to be on MTV’s mind already … doesn’t it? We certainly like to think so.

There’s certainly a case to be made for the network figuring out a way to continue this franchise, with the #1 reason being simply that they, quite frankly, need original content. For the past few years, MTV’s bread and butter has been unscripted, story-based reality shows in between this one, Are You the One?, Jersey Shore Family Vacation, and others. Their reality stars are some of the most recognizable in the genre and the way to keep viewers coming back is consistency. They want to know for sure that, if they turn on MTV, some of their favorites are still going to be around.

Beyond all of that, we think in terms of this specific show that there is still a lot of ground to cover here. There’s all of this tension between Gus and Nilsa, there’s the journey of Candace in the midst of a complicated personal life, there’s everything that has unfolded with Kortni this season, and of course there will inevitably be some updates on everyone’s lives by the time season 3 starts up. We don’t think the show has reached a Jersey Shore level where these people are in different stages of their lives just yet and they can continue to do some of what they have over time.

Our hope is that MTV will announce a season 3 renewal for Floribama Shore at around the time season 2 ends early next year. That’s something similar to what they did recently with Jersey Shore Family Vacation and we do think it’s worth doing here again. This way, viewers can know as the season winds down that they are not looking at the end of the overall journey just yet.

One question that we do continue to wonder is simply this: Is MTV going to be interested in finding another version of the Shore franchise set somewhere else? We do wonder if we could eventually get a version of the show on the West Coast, or if there somewhere else (take the Carolinas, or even somewhere in New England) that could provide an interesting backdrop. In order to make this show work, we do think that there are two different things that you really need — a memorable setting and then, to go along with that, cast members that are unique from any others you’ve seen in the past.
