Outlander video: Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, cast talk first acting roles

At the bottom of this article, you can see something rather-pleasant via Starz that features Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, and many other cast members talking about their very first acting roles from many years back. For some of them, the answer is actually rather similar — Caitriona, Sophie, and Sam all reference productions of Oliver. Meanwhile, you get a wide range of other fun answers from some of the different cast members. Take, for example, Richard appearing in an episode of a BBC series entitled Legit. Meanwhile, John Bell first appeared on another immensely popular show before Outlander in Doctor Who. We’re especially fond of Lauren Lyle’s answer, as she makes it clear that she played both an angel and also Jesus in a nativity. Doesn’t that seem like a rather difficult double-role to pull off to anyone else?
One other thing that we appreciate about this video is, rather simply, getting a chance in order to see Duncan Lacroix make an appearance. Because the network was understandably trying to keep the reveal of Murtagh somewhat of a secret earlier on this season, we haven’t seen the actor make all that many appearances in some of these videos. Maybe that will change moving forward through the rest of the season … or at least that is something that we hope.
So how important are first acting roles for performers? Personally, we don’t think that we can actually properly put it into words. These are the sort of things that make some of these people precisely who they are. This is when they first had that mental light-bulb that this is something that they wanted to do with the remainder of their life and really a major goal that they want to strive for. This is probably why for many of these people, their first roles are so memorable. We’re certainly grateful that it helped all of them get to the point they are at now, starring in a series that so many of us love dearly.
