Mom season 7 renewal in limbo; Allison Janney, Anna Faris seek new deals

Mom season 5 renewal -

Is a Mom season 7 renewal going to happen over at CBS? It’s certainly something that we would like to see happen over at CBS.

Yet, at the same time, there are some snags that need to be worked out here first when it comes to Allison Janney and Anna Faris’ contract situation. According to a report from Deadline, there is an interest in another batch of episodes from CBS, and with that in mind studio Warner Bros. TV has already reached out to the two stars in hopes of getting a new deal done. Janney and Faris’ contracts expire at the end of season 6 and because of that, they are very much due for a big raise. The two actresses know that, and at the moment it does feel like the two are fairly far behind on money.

While TV actor salaries are not necessarily the sort of thing that a lot of people really like to talk about, there are some things worth noting here. The actresses are currently making around $200,000 an episode; meanwhile, the five original actors on The Big Bang Theory generated around $1 million an episode by the time they were in season 8. While Mom doesn’t generate the same sort of ratings that The Big Bang Theory did for most of its run, it is a solid utility performer for CBS — it’s one of their most-popular sitcoms beyond The Big Bang Theory and then Young Sheldon.

Do we think that a deal will eventually get done here? More than likely, yes. Mom is a show that generates a ton of money for all parties involved and beyond that, CBS needs it. With The Big Bang Theory ending after this current season, the network more than likely needs just about every other stable show that it can on its schedule. They need to have some solid performers and then also some new comedy hits while they are at it. With that in mind, we hope that they are already out there, scouting the field in hopes of finding some big new shows.

For now, though, they have to lock a deal down and keep this one going — but the good news is that they do still have some time. CBS more than likely does not need to decide on the future of Mom until they get around to late spring; at that point, they should at least have an idea on the state of contract negotiations. It’s hard to really see this show continuing without these two particular leads.
