The Voice iTunes results: Kirk Jay, Chevel Shepherd, Chris Kroeze all win

Voice season 13 promo

We know that iTunes results are not necessarily counted for The Voice voting in the way that they once were, but we do think that they are a pretty key measurement often in terms of who wins and who loses.

In this particular case, we’re getting a good sense from them that Kirk Jay, Chevel Shepherd, and Chris Kroeze are all still in contention to win. Meanwhile, it does feel like Kennedy Holmes, despite some great performances last night, is a little bit further down the pecking order.

As of the time of this writing (which is around 10:30 a.m. Eastern time), Chevel’s original song “Broken Hearts” is currently sitting at #1 on the iTunes top 100 chart; meanwhile, Kirk’s “Defenseless” is at #2 and Chris’ “Human” is at #3. In theory, all three of them have a great shot at getting votes and streams because of this. Typically, viewers are voting for artists whose music they want to buy and there’s a pretty clear correlation here. Given that we are talking about three artists who are in the top three, though, we think it’s really hard to call an individual winner here. With that said, Kirk has three different songs in the top six and cumulatively, he does seem to have a little bit of an edge over the rest of the pack. He’s had the most success on iTunes out of anyone over the past month.

So what’s happened with Kennedy, who was viewed at one point to be the favorite to win the whole thing? Well, we think her biggest issue is just that her original song just wasn’t as good as the other three. That’s no real fault of her own, since we highly doubt that she had that much control over what she was singing. Yet, we do think it’s notable that her original song didn’t get the sales bump that the other three did.

In the end, winning The Voice at this point doesn’t necessarily matter all that much beyond some extra TV time. It’s really all about what these contestants decide to do with their careers the rest of the way. Kennedy has the most mainstream potential out of anyone, but we do also think that Kirk or Chevel could find some room for themselves over on country radio if they can continue to put out good, interesting records that stand out from the rest of the pack.
