Tonight, what the three contestants are going to be doing is rather simple — a duet with their coach, a new cover, and then also an “original” song to go along with it.

Kirk Jay – His cover is “I Won’t Let Go” by Rascal Flatts — basically, the sort of cover that suits his voice really well and he pack a good bit of emotional content into. Meanwhile, his duet with Blake Shelton is “You Look So Good in Love” by George Strait, and his original song is called “Defenseless.”

Kennedy Holmes – Meanwhile, Kennedy’s solo cover is “Confident” from Demi Lovato (something fun!) while her duet with Jennifer Hudson is to “Home” from The Wiz — this is an opportunity for the two to deliver something mesmerizing. Finally, her original song is “Love Is Free.”

Chris Kroeze – His solo song is “Sweet Home Alabama,” basically the sort of southern-rock song that every single viewer out there is familiar with. Meanwhile, he’s performing “Two More Bottles of Wine” alongside Blake and performing an original song entitled “Human.”

Chevel Shepherd – Her first song is “It’s a Little Too Late” by Tanya Tucker, and she’s performing “Rockin’ with the Rhythm of the Rain” with Kelly. Finally, her original song is entitled “Broken Hearts.”

Who is set up the best?

We’re going to be analyzing the original songs a little bit more in-depth later but for now, we like that Kennedy is doing some stuff that should make her stand out. Kirk is the clear favorite to win at the moment, mostly because Team Blake has the history of really well in these shows and he’s got a killer solo song choice. Yet, Kennedy’s a great underdog because she’s really the only performer of the group without the country connection and that may help to get a number of non-country fans ultimately flocking to her in the end.

We’ll ultimately have a chance to find out more news tonight, as The Voice airs its new episode over on NBC.
