Timeless movie will leave room for (possible) future adventures
For the time being, Thursday’s Timeless movie on NBC is set to be the end of the road for the series. Yet, you never can say never when it comes to the world of TV.
Speaking in a new interview with TVLine, Matt Lanter (who plays Wyatt) makes it very clear that the final ending to the movie is “open-ended” and because of that, you could theoretically come back for more. Meanwhile, show executive producer Arika Lisanne Mittman described the situation as possible:
“If that were to happen, that’d be awesome. With this show, I will never say anything’s impossible. I mean, we were the show that was cancelled and brought back three days later. In my life, I’ve never heard of anything like that happening! I wouldn’t count on anything, but I wouldn’t rule us out.”
For now, it feels like the writers, the producers, and the cast put everything into this movie assuming that it was going to be the end. They didn’t want to just hold out hope for something that may not happen down the line. After all, there are so many boxes that would have to be checked at this point for there to be more Timeless in the future. For starters, the ratings for the movie would have to be good enough to get the interest of some network or streaming service (provided that NBC isn’t interested). Following that, there would need to be some more great stories. Finally, you’d have to find a way to get the cast back together and that could be rather challenging in itself. Many of these actors are now (understandably) moving on to other projects and because of that, you would have to find a way to make things work. While we’re pretty darn sure that they would want to, this doesn’t really guarantee much of anything.
Basically, there are so many hurdles out there for more Timeless that for now, it may just be better to be able to dive into the story as we’re seeing it. If something more happens down the road, something more happens down the road. That’s a bridge that can be crossed when we get around to it. For now, we’re happy and super-grateful to be able to even have a Timeless movie given that this is a show that has been canceled now twice and brought back only because fans fought tooth and nail for it.
