Ray Donovan season 6 episode 9 preview: Is Ray finally getting help?

Sure, this is meant to convey the season 5 cliffhanger to a certain degree, but it’s also Ray willingly walking down into a place where he could ultimately drown. The symbolism is clear in terms of exactly what this means for Ray moving forward. His quest to find freedom and some element of happiness is probably now one that he will ever succeed in doing. Just remember for a minute how tonight’s episode ended — with Ray in a psychiatric hospital. This could be his home for the immediate future.

Ray struggles to get the help he so desperately needs, causing Bridget to learn some hard truths about her father. Ray makes a move to save both Novak’s campaign and Mac’s life. Mickey sees an opportunity to recoup some of his losses. Darryl and Sandy find common ground.

As for how Ray is going to do just about anything given his present predicament, that is something that we’re going to have to wait and see. It just doesn’t feel like, at least for the time being, there’s all that much in the way of a path for him. It feels like he’s almost trapped — it could be the best thing for him if he takes it seriously, but given both his ego and also his own history of trying to take the bull by the horns, he’s probably not going to do that.

The preview that aired following tonight’s episode specifically chose to illuminate the story for Bridget further as she has to face the idea that her father is not 100% the person that he likes to present himself to be. More than likely, there’s a lot of news in here that she already knew, but it’s still rather hard having to accept it when it is directly in front of you.
