The Resident season 2 spoilers: Many challenges for Conrad, Nic ahead

Speaking in a new interview with TVLine, series executive producer Todd Harthan noted that there is “nothing but obstacles” for the couple in the new year. Why is that? Well, he notes that “in just about every episode, there’s a new one for them to overcome… and they just start stacking up.” There is going to be a lot of stress that is coming their way moving forward, mostly because two family members of theirs have both been involved in separate health crises as of late. Think here in terms of what unfolded recently when it comes to Conrad’s father and then also Nic’s sister. This is a lot for them to deal with, plus of course the rigors of the rest of their job.
Will the cliffhanger regarding Marshall be resolved when the series returns in the new year? It’s hard to really imagine a situation where it’s not tackled head-on, largely because we are looking at one of the biggest stories that we’ve had a chance to see on the series to date. If Marshall does find a way to survive, we hope that Conrad is able to carve in a little bit of time here somewhere with his father — where they can actually get to know each other a little bit more as people. This has been, at least by and large, a relationship built mostly on avoidance. At some point in the future, we do think that the two of them are going to have to recognize that this is never going to change anything for them or fill any sort of void that they may have.
Relationship-wise, there is one other question still worth wondering based on the fall finale: Will kids be an issue down the line? At the failed wedding of Devon and Priya, there was a small comment made about Nic not being interesting in having children. That may not seem like anything worth sounding an alarm on as of right now, but we do think that almost every little moment like this is included in a show like this for a reason. With that, we are very much cognizant that it could come back and be important down the road.
