If you look below, you can see Barrett (performing under his surname Verbal the Rapper) performing a tribute rap to the show entitled “Hero in a Hoodie.” This is a moniker that was first handed to Rufus a little while back, and he described that a little bit more in a new interview with TVInsider:

It was a really cool way to pay tribute to the show and also expose  the fans to a little more of my musical side. Every once in a while I’d do some freestyle videos on my Instagram. I love the term “Hero in a Hoodie.” It’s so subversive in many ways. There’s been so many negative connotations with that.   When we got the very first pilot, I said, to see a black man running in a hoodie  and he’s the hero scientist is an anomaly in the media so it’s really great to have this image out there. To put this idea  out there of being a hero, to having an artist of color to represent this culture, the place I’m from. That is both Brooklyn and this way of dressing, but it’s also about science. I came from a background in science and math, and so it’s a very good way to merge all of those images and all of those ideas into one final tribute.

This is a really fun video that is worth watching both for the rap ability, the small cameo from Claudia Doumit (who plays Jiya), and also the lyrical content itself. It’s a great way to reflect back on the last two seasons and give a little bit of love to the fans who are responsible for this show sticking around. The only reason that this movie is happening is because of its viewers; heck, that’s the only reason that we got a season 2! Neither one of these things were guaranteed but somehow, someway, all of the viewers out there found a way in order to make some great things happen for the cast and crew behind the scenes.
