If you love Superstore, you’re going to have to wait a really long time in order to check out the remainder of season 4 after tonight’s new episode.
Because of a scheduling decision at NBC, The Titan Games is going to be taking over the 8:00 p.m. Eastern hour on the network for at least a good chunk of the new year. Originally, the plan was for this show to come on Wednesdays before we got around to Chicago Fire and Chicago PD, but that plan has been augmented mostly due to the success that the network has seen from the entire One Chicago lineup. Now, Superstore is one of the shows that is being left in stasis for a good while this midseason.
Luckily, there is at least some good news in that eventually, you will have a chance to see the show back on the air before we get around to May sweeps. You may just have to wait a little while for it. Thursday, March 7 is when the remainder of the season’s season 4 episodes will start airing and we imagine that the silver lining there is that more than likely, you’re going to get new episodes aired more or less consistently through the end of the season. That’s something worth celebrating, even if the hiatus is not.
Another thing worth being hopeful about is that, at least for now, we are still reasonably optimistic about the future of Superstore as a series. We do think that this is one of the most under-the-radar shows out there, mostly in that you don’t see it get a ton of promotion even if its numbers are reasonably steady. Season 4 so far is averaging a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic — that may be fantastic, but it’s retaining more than 85% of its audience from last season and that’s something that most networks love to see. They want to be able to know that their show will hold on to some semblance of viewership from one season to next. We like to think that there’s at least one more season’s worth of stories still in the tank, but obviously, we’re not the person crafting and making these decisions behind the scenes. The ball is in NBC’s court and we’re hoping that there will be some sort of news on this subject before we get around to the middle of May.
When could more teasers for Superstore be out?
Think February — because we are a good ways out still, there is no reason to think that NBC is going to be rushing into giving us more news at all as to precisely what to expect.
