Batwoman pilot for The CW could start filming this spring

When is Batwoman officially coming to The CW? That’s certainly a question worth thinking about now on the other side of the Elseworlds crossover and, beyond just that, we’re getting a little bit more information all about it now.

Via a report from SpoilerTV, filming for the pilot episode of the Ruby Rose superhero show will start up at some point in the spring. With that in mind, over the next couple of months we imagine that we’ll get a chance to learn about some of the other characters that are going to inhabit her world. Part 2 of Elseworlds offered us up at least a brief taste of Kate Kane as a character, but there wasn’t a whole lot said in terms of who she works with or what she does outside of the Wayne Enterprises building. She’s still a mystery, and the idea there was to clearly save something for the show itself.

The site also offered up a short synopsis, which at least gives you a little bit more information about what lies ahead:

In a Gotham suffering in Batman’s absence, Batwoman is a dark DC Comics drama following the journey of Kate Kane as she dons a cape, cowl, and detective’s hat to save her city. But Kate’s personal life proves just as complicated as she grapples with a fractured family, a rookie team, and unattainable love.

Overall, we do imagine that Batwoman is going to provide a great deal of entertainment if it can capture the magic of a lot of the rest of the Arrowverse, though we definitely do wonder how The CW will be able to handle having six different superhero shows all at one time. (Technically, Black Lightning is not a part of the Arrowverse at present, but we wouldn’t be altogether shocked if it eventually finds its way there — the one thing that makes it a little bit different is that it doesn’t film in the same exact spot.)

At the moment, the earliest we anticipate a Batwoman series coming on the air is at some point this fall, and we do think that there could be a place for her within the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths event — though you could make a case for just about every single show under the sun. That includes Legends of Tomorrow, which effectively wrote itself out of being a part of the crossover in a rather-amusing way.
