The Conners season 2 renewal likely; early talks begin

The Conners

While it’s hardly a surprise, it does feel as though The Conners season 2 is going to be coming to ABC in the near future.

According to a new report via TVLine, early discussions have begun about bringing back the Roseanne spin-off, though nothing is 100% official just yet. Getting everyone back on board is one important part of the equation, as is figuring out the episode count and so much more.

Based on the ratings alone, a renewal for The Conners has always felt, by and large, like a foregone conclusion. It seems to be faring really well in the 18-49 demographic and, beyond that, also has a nice bit of DVR viewership. To date, it is averaging a 1.6 rating — while this isn’t going to break any enormous ratings records, at the same time it’s clearly a good enough performance that we feel fairly confident that it’s going to be around on the air for a rather-long time still if the cast continues to want to do it. The Conners is the #1 comedy on ABC so far this fall and their #2 show behind Grey’s Anatomy. While it isn’t getting the same ratings that it did with Roseanne Barr as the star, it wasn’t really expected to do that. Given the decline of hype around the show, there probably would’ve been drops even if Roseanne stuck around. Sometimes, social media has a tendency to over-sensationalize things, but this is the sort of thing that often tends to happen when it comes to TV viewership — especially for revivals.

All of this information fits in very well with what series star John Goodman told TMZ recently — that he personally is very much game to go back and do a little bit more of The Conners moving forward.

How long should The Conners season 2 be?

This is where we would switch things around. Personally, we’d put the show on for around 13 episodes as opposed to the 11 that we got this season — there’s just not all that much to work with when it comes to 11 episodes, especially for a comedy series.
