Vikings season 5 episode 14 preview: A look at ‘The Lost Moment’

What lies ahead on Vikings season 5 episode 14 when it airs on History? We’re gearing up for a story entitled “The Lost Moment” that is hopefully going to be eventful. Judging from where Ivar’s story left off tonight, it definitely feels as though he’s on a crazy ride with him thinking that he’s a god and all. We’re going to see him pushing forward with the celebrations of himself — which are the sort of thing someone apparently does when they think that they are a god. He’s got the whole world in his hands at the moment: He rules Kattegat, he has a beautiful wife, who is pregnant with his “miracle child” and he’s a god. That should be enough for him, but he knows full well that Lagertha is still out there and that will be an itch that he will need to eventually scratch.

Is Ivar taking his eye off the ball a little bit? This is a guy who has been so underestimated and disadvantaged for much of his life that he really hasn’t had too many opportunities to be at the top of the food chain. He hasn’t really tasted victory or leadership all that much and this has been a great an opportunity for him to really do so if he can avoid tripping on his own ego.

We like to think that Ivar is the sort of person who is always going to think a few moves ahead as to precisely what he should be doing moving forward, but times are changing as he is settling into his new role of ruler. If he is vulnerable for just one second in Kattegat, that may be an opportunity for someone to jump on him. He’s never been more of a target (making a spectacle of yourself and striking fear in your subjects will do that), even if he does have more influence than ever before.

Clearly, there’s a lot that is going on in this episode beyond just Ivar and we’re going to have an opportunity to see a lot of that play out. Also, it seems like we’re gearing up for perhaps more violence in Wessex and that could raise the stakes of this series yet another level. As Vikings has progressed over the years, we have seen the show become larger in its scope. There are bigger armies, more danger, and more death. It’s a sign of the expansion that was present in that particular time, and it’s also the natural growth of the series. That’s what happens when you have been on the air for this long!
