The sad news coming out of tonight’s episode “A Higher Law” is that there is no new installment coming up on Bull for a while. This is pretty par for the course for the show, and most CBS shows in general) as this is the holiday break. The network recognizes that there isn’t a lot of value that comes via just turning out constant new episodes at a time in which there re not a whole lot of viewers around. Beyond just that, there is also a cognizance that production needs to stay far ahead of the episodes that are on the air. Bull takes far longer than a week to produce each episode behind the scenes, so this is something schedule-wise that really does need to be considered here.
So when can you expect some more new episodes to come on the air? Think along the lines of January. CBS isn’t going to make you wait for too long in order to let you see what’s coming up, mostly because there is more or less zero reason to push it off forever. They want you to be able to check out and enjoy new episodes at a time in which it benefits them, and there are certainly few times that benefit them quite like January. That’s when there are a ton of viewers around, mostly because of long nights and poor weather.
So what do we actually expect to see when Bull comes back on the air? This is not actually a series that really needs to do too much different from what it is already. It’s always going to be about the case-of-the-week story first and foremost, so it will benefit the show highly to continue to think about interesting,compelling ideas that fit into this mold perfectly.
Of course, beyond this there is also the personal component to this show and that is certainly something that still does need to be explored — especially in terms of Jason Bull’s private life. Why not explore that a little bit more at this point?We know that this is not a guy who likes being alone, so it certainly seems like there is a lot of different material that could be mined from this.
