Timeless movie spoilers: Full NBC description for what’s ahead

This week, NBC has released finally the official synopsis for the two-part event, one that is going to start with a journey to save Rufus from the past. However, that’s not the only thing that will be unfolding here. There is more time-travel beyond that, and of course a holiday component thrown in there, as well. (This was a note by NBC, one that makes some sense given when the movie is actually airing — why not take advantage of it airing at this particular time of year?)

As Christmas arrives in the Bunker, the Time Team is inspired by a visit from their future selves to find a way to try to save Rufus (Malcolm Barrett). But when the Mothership jumps to 1848 California, they’re forced to put those plans on hold and chase Rittenhouse back to the Gold Rush, where they encounter one of the era’s most dangerous villains. Then chasing the Mothership to Korea in the winter of 1950, our team helps a stranded, pregnant refugee attempt to escape a tragic fate. Stuck with no way out, our team faces its toughest challenge yet, and in the process, come to terms with their feelings for each other. Also starring Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Goran Višnjic, Sakina Jaffrey, Paterson Joseph and Claudia Doumit.
Judging from this alone, don’t you think that there is going to be a little bit of romance thrown in here? It certainly feels that way! We do think, given that this is a holiday special, this movie will have its fair share of positive messages and warm fuzzies. We have a hard time imagining that the folks over at NBC want anyone to come out of this special feeling altogether sad about anything. We’re not even sure how much of a cliffhanger we are going to get, provided that this movie is meant to tie together most of the biggest loose ends from the first two seasons of the show.
Do we think that there could still be a tease for a potential third season down the line? We’d be surprised if there isn’t, mostly because we like to think that the missions for the Time Team are going to continue, regardless of whether or not we are there in order to witness them.
