For those of you who need a quick refresher on what happened at the end of the midseason finale, here you go: We saw Antonio kill a suspect in the midst of a violent showdown. He was using at the time and because of that one fact alone, it makes the situation about a million times more tenuous than it would probably be otherwise.
In a typical situation here, there’s a pretty good chance that Antonio would end up losing his badge and worse: He’d be going away to prison for a rather-long time as a result of all of this. Yet Chicago PD has a habit of people surprising you and that could be the case here. After all, it may turn out that Adam Ruzek is going to be the person who is able to bail him out … but it is going to take some sacrifice of his own. In the promo below, you can see Adam contemplating a big, potentially-lifechanging decision — is he going to be willing to put himself on the line in order to ensure that Antonio keeps himself safe?
It’s an interesting story for the Ruzek character so far this season — if you think back to earlier this season, he and Antonio got into a really violent fight over their differing philosophies on handling crime. Ruzek knows just how committed Antonio is to the letter of the law and that is probably one of the reasons why this entire situation is eating him up inside. He knows that this isn’t Antonio and doesn’t want him to go down like this. He knows that he can help and with that, he wants to put himself, clearly, into a position where he can actually do something to make the world a little bit better for his fellow cop.
Yet, there are some huge consequences to what Adam is thinking about doing here — that is why Hailey is warning him in the preview that he could go to prison. Odds are, though, he’s already thought about all of the risks and is still willing to give this a go. That’s the sort of person who Ruzek is, for better or for worse.
Chicago PD returns with new episodes in January; be prepared for all sorts of craziness from start to finish as this cliffhanger gets (hopefully) resolved.
