Criminal Minds season 14 finale: Work beginning behind the scenes

In a recent post on Twitter, show executive producer Harry bring confirmed that work is officially underway on the 15th episode of this current season, which unfortunately just so happens to be the finale. Because of CBS not picking up the crime drama for any more episodes, the writers and producers are having to do what they can with precisely what they have. This means that it’s possible that filming for the finale will be underway before the Christmas holiday, but we don’t want to make any assumptions that it could be completed by December 25, either.
What is going to be incredibly strange about the finale being filmed this time around is the uncertainty, the not knowing as to whether or not this will be the last finale. There’s been reason for confidence for almost every single finale for the series to date; yet, this one there’s so much more uncertainty. The shorter episode order yields some of that, as do the ratings being down versus season 13. The fact that Criminal Minds is not a fully CBS show hurts it in some ways, as well, given that the network has a little less incentive to keep it on the air than they do some other shows that are out there.
So where do we think Criminal Minds will go moving into its season 14 finale? If past seasons are any indicator, they are more than likely going to save the best for last when it comes to interesting, shocking cases and UnSubs designed to make everyone watching at home uncomfortable. We want to see something epic, but also maybe something a little more personal and nostalgic. While the temptation is always there to do a huge cliffhanger with a show like this, we’re not entirely sure that the series needs one. It can always come back without one at the end of the season and, beyond that, we do remain confident that viewers will keep watching if it is renewed. We don’t exactly think that having some huge shocker at the end of the season is the only reason why they would opt to keep watching.
More than likely, the Criminal Minds finale will air at some point within the first couple of months of the new year. We’ll have more news when it comes out.
