Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 6 trailer gives off action-movie vibe

Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 5

Are you excited to see Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 6 on NBC next month? If so, we’ve got an exciting new trailer via the network below!

In the new clip, you’ve got a chance to see something rather exciting courtesy of Andy Samberg as Jake Peralta fashions himself a Die Hard sort of action hero. You’ve got an explosion, a rooftop scene, and also a helicopter leap. All of this is fun … but it’s also entirely in his head.

What we love about this trailer more than anything is that this is more promotion than Fox gave the show in its final years on the network. NBC just has an incentive here that the show’s former network did, largely in that they have a greater ownership stake of the program and they’re also clearly taking advantage of as many different cross-platform opportunities with the series as they possibly can. For example, Terry Crews is hosting America’s Got Talent: The Champions while we’re also getting a chance to see Samberg as a co-host for the Golden Globes alongside Sandra Oh. These two actors are effectively piggybacking off of a great presenting routine that they did at the Emmys. It’s an unexpected combination but it should be fun.

Speaking of fun … do we go back to Brooklyn Nine-Nine now? The real joy with this show coming to NBC is that tonally, it’s always made a lot of sense there given that it feels very much in the vein of all of the other shows Mike Schur has worked on in between The Office, Parks and Recreation, or The Good Place. It’s a series that has a great sense of humor but just needs support and a great launching pad. While we’re not sure the move will all of a sudden make Brooklyn Nine-Nine a top five comedy in the ratings, we do at least think that it could help to get it over the ratings hump a little bit and get people starting to realize that they really should consider watching that show live in the event that they’re not already.

So what’s coming up this season? Expect to see Scully and Hitchcock get a spotlight while we’ll also get to see the new phase of life for Jake and Amy. There’s also, sadly, going to be the exit of Gina … which we do hope is taken on in a way that feels very much appropriate to the character. She’s been a really integral part of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine family over the years.
