If you recall, DeAndre found himself booted from the competition after his own coach in Adam Levine openly campaigned for a different team member in Reagan Strange to move forward. She wasn’t able to perform on Tuesday night and he did his part in order to stand up for her. Yet, in doing so it certainly made it seem like he was throwing DeAndre under the bus.
So how does the singer feel about it now? Speaking to a local affiliate in his home state of Texas, he made some of his thoughts very clear:
“It was just weird … I’m not being rude. I just felt like he sold me out… and I just don’t respect it. I’m just being honest … [Myself and Dave Fenley] did our job, sick or not. I just got over laryngitis. When I came back, I still sang. It wasn’t none of that anxiety or none of that stuff.”
DeAndre went on to say that he recognized that Reagan was a young kid, but that he still feels like Adam could have done something a little bit more in order to support him during the show. Do we think that it actually would have changed the end result here? Probably not (Reagan has a young and very-active social media following), but the optics of this were fairly terrible since it suggested that Adam didn’t care about one of his own team members. We think that he was trying to think strategically since he feels like Reagan has a better chance of making it to the finale, but that doesn’t change the fact that it was a terrible look for him and all week long, the Maroon 5 singer has been subject to some serious backlash. We’re not sure that he will get past that for at least the remainder of this season … which isn’t great news for Reagan, since we think that this situation could be held against her, even if it is not entirely her fault that Adam said what he did.
