The Voice: Should Adam Levine apologize over Reagan Strange, DeAndre Nico?

The Voice 15

Tonight’s new episode of The Voice was controversial for a number of different reasons. For starters, we saw a #VoiceSave moment like no other as Reagan Strange ended up advancing over DeAndre Nico and Dave Fenley, even in spite of the fact that she was sick and unable to perform tonight.

Obviously, the circumstances of the elimination tonight were very much unfortunately, but then there is yet another gear that has to be considered with this: Adam Levine’s role in all of it. During the show tonight, he openly campaigned for Reagan Strange to receive votes over DeAndre, another person on his team. Why do this? We do think that it was probably with strategy in mind. Reagan has performed better this season and with that in mind, has a chance to move on to the next round. Meanwhile, DeAndre had already been in danger and more often than not, would have been going home before the finals.

So should Adam apologize for this? Maybe to DeAndre privately, he will … but really, the truth is that this was the public’s decision and you have to wonder whether or not Adam really ended up swaying anyone in the first place with his pitch. We’re not altogether sure that he did. We’ve got a feeling that on some level, the majority of the voters probably had their mind made up before the voting window as to who they wanted to save. Reagan just so happened to be the same person that Adam endorsed.

In the end, we do think that Adam really should’ve just went ahead and campaigned for both of them — he did on social media, but didn’t on the show itself. That would have made things so much easier.

The long-term effects of this particular decision on Adam’s part could end up being a little bit more seismic than he first assumed. After all, just think about things through this lens: What happens if some voters hold Adam’s actions against him here down the line? It’s possible that this comment turned off people and Reagan could suffer for it down the road. In general, she’s going to have a hard time moving forward given the fact that so many people will look back on her harshly because of this, even if she cannot help the fact that she’s sick.
