The Talk: Carrie Ann Inaba reportedly replacing Julie Chen

It seems as though The Talk has figured out precisely who they want to replace Julie Chen on the panel full-time … and it’s a name many people out there likely expected.

According to a new report coming in via Variety, you are going to see Carrie Ann Inaba, starting in January, fill the void left by the Big Brother host. Chen departed following the exit of CBS CEO and her husband Les Moonves in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations. Inaba, who is a judge on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, has been a frequent panelist on the daytime series already, so this gig comes with it a certain degree of familiarity. This is something that matters to CBS perhaps more so than just snagging some sort of big name.

It’s easy to draw comparisons between The Talk and The View, largely because they are reasonably similar shows with somewhat similar formats. Yet, there are some key differences when it comes to how the shows actually work in terms of discussions. You never really hear about any epic arguments on The Talk, with the reason for that being that the series often casts people who have a tendency to get along very well and form more of a typical family unit. The show has a little bit of a different energy because of that, and it makes sense for them to want someone full-time who they already know and like.

Also, Inaba is an extremely-familiar face as someone who has been a part of Dancing with the Stars for more than 20 seasons. Viewers know her, and they are familiar with the way in which she has a tendency to communicate with viewers at home. For those wondering, we have a hard time imagining that Inaba will be rendered unable to do that job because of her work over on this one. Dancing with the Stars is live and airs much later in the day; beyond just that, it only comes on ABC one or two times a week, at most. Because of Carrie Ann’s job, she doesn’t need to be there for rehearsals or a lot of the other stuff that goes down over the course of the week.

Even though Chen departed The Talk, the plan is for her to continue to be the face of Big Brother — including the celebrity edition of the series that is airing early next year. Hopefully, we will have some other insight on that very soon.
