The Big Bang Theory season 12 episode 10 video: The Young Sheldon crossover

Big Bang Theory season 11 episode 19

Tonight, The Big Bang Theory season 12 episode 10 is going to offer something we never expected to see: A crossover with Young Sheldon. The long-running CBS series is basically going to pair itself off with the prequel series, and in a way that is certainly creative.

In the video below, you can get a small sense as to how this crossover is going to be coming together — though it doesn’t exactly seem, at least for now, like you’re going to see the new and old versions of the character in the same room together. Instead, Young Sheldon seems to be appearing as a mechanism (via VCR of all things) to try to cheer up Older Sheldon, who is feeling rather down in the dumps. Some other Young Sheldon cast members will also appear.

What could prove to be entertaining about all of this is that it will offer up Amy and many of Sheldon’s friends an opportunity to possibly comment on the younger version of himself, something that we really have not seen before. Given that Lance Barber is also appearing in this, there’s also a chance to explore on some level the relationship between older Sheldon and his father. One of the things that we’ve really appreciated about Young Sheldon is that you get a sense that something different is going on with Sheldon the narrator (who seems to be significantly older than Big Bang Theory Sheldon) and his dad. It’s possible that after Sheldon himself becomes a father years down the road, he starts to look at his own father differently. In the present, we’ve seen the Big Bang Theory version routinely put him down and joke about him — he’s far from a perfect father, but there is certainly more nuance and discussion to be had here than we previously thought.

If nothing else, consider this crossover a fun opportunity for these two different shows to cross paths in the midst of the final Big Bang Theory season. We feel like this was bound to happen at some point before the end of the series, so why not take advantage of the opportunity to revel in it now? We’re at least excited to see what this looks like and for the two shows to celebrate their shared legacy while there is still an opportunity in which to do that.
