Outlander season 4: Sophie Skelton on potential Brianna, Jamie meeting

Brianna

Should Brianna and Jamie meet at some point on Outlander season 4 in the future, what would that look like? Consider this a topic worthy of some discussion…

If you have read the books (spoilers ahead), then you certainly know already that there is an emotional meeting coming up between these two characters. This marks the first time that Jamie has ever seen his biological daughter, who was born after Claire returned to Boston in her present era. Frank raised her up until his death, and we know now that Bree is heading to the past with a specific mission in mind. She has already learned that Claire and Jamie could die as a result of a fire. Now, she has to make her way to North Carolina in order to tell them before this event happens.

So will there be happiness that comes from Brianna seeing Jamie? Sure, but it does also seem as though there could be some conflicting emotions that go along with it as well. Speaking in a new interview with Elle, here is some of what Sophie Skelton had to say on the subject:

Bree’s not going through the stones out of curiosity—she’s going because she has a job to do. There’s a lot at stake—she’s trying to save her parents’ lives—but of course there is that curiosity about meeting Jamie. This man’s been put on a pedestal by history, and by Claire, for a long time, and although Brianna’s always been so close to Frank, I think she also knew that a part of her was missing. I think that’s a big part of why she changed from history to engineering for her degree, moving away from trying to connect to Frank through history.

But in the moment of coming up to the stones, I think there’s an element of feeling a slight betrayal of Frank. That’s something we lay on quite thickly later in the season, in showing how close Brianna and Frank really were, because that’s important to understand where Bree’s head’s at. She’s never just going to run straight into Jamie’s arms, because she’s a woman now and this man’s a stranger, and she had a father. I don’t think the blood element matters as much to her.

While we certainly do think Brianna will come to have a good relationship with Jamie over time, these things don’t happen immediately — she’s certainly heard many a story about him, but those were in a different time. There’s also a difference between hearing about the 18th century and seeing it for the first time yourself. Her views and values are very different from many people, Jamie included — this could end up being quite the adjustment for both of them.

In the end, we also don’t want to rush into anything regarding a meeting here. It may take some time before we make it to this moment.
