Elementary season 7 debate: A conversation about scheduling

At the moment, the good news remains simply that we know an Elementary season 7 is coming down the line. The bad news, however, is not knowing precisely when it could be. The unknown is a hard thing to grapple with and yet precisely, that’s what we got … and it doesn’t appear as though we’re going to be a reprieve from it in the near future.

Based on some of the current information that is out there, the likely premiere time for the seventh season is going to be the spring — it’s what makes the most sense given the fact that CBS could start to have some scheduling holes around that time that need to be filled. What you just have to wonder is how they are going to fill them.

If we were to have it our way, our sentiment at present would be to put the show back on Monday nights. Because Magnum PI is only doing a 20-episode season 1 as opposed to the typical 22-24 you get for a CBS drama series, that means that you could, in theory, either replace it with Elementary or move Bull up an hour and put Elementary on after the fact. The latter may be the better move, mostly because we do think that Bull is a good lead-in and the two could compliment each other rather nicely.

So what about some other possible holes in the schedule? Well, the issue is that there aren’t many others until the summer. CBS has already established pretty firmly lineups on Tuesday through Friday for the remainder of the season. They could have a whole on Sunday once God Friended Me is over, but even with this, that timeslot will be open for Instinct once that show gets around to airing again.

The truth is that if you love Elementary, it’s going to be a long wait … again. Beyond just that, it may actually end up premiering even later given that CBS has some other midseason shows that they have not even slotted for premiere dates at the moment. It has a lineup that is simply performing fairly well, but the downside with this is that it doesn’t leave open too much room for other stuff.

Rest assured, though, we will come bearing some more Elementary season 7 news the moment that there is some more to discuss.
