The promo below may not give you too much when it comes to the actual story for this upcoming episode, but it does offer up what we think is a pretty clear indication that the holiday season is going to be a part of the story at almost every turn. Take, for example, potentially seeing Murtaugh getting stuck in a chimney … and then beyond that, someone dressed as Santa being under arrest because every crime show does need that to a certain degree. If that isn’t enough to satisfy you, for whatever reason, this episode is also going to bring you cars crashing into buildings and then also a chainsaw battle. There’s a lot going on here!
Beyond all of this, we’re going to have a personal story mixed in here for Wesley Cole as he and Maya will get a chance to spend Christmas together — something that Cole hasn’t been there to see for much of her life. On paper, we do think that this is the sort of thing that would be happy and joyous for her — but we’re not sure it’s so simple. Like most kids, she probably has a certain number of traditions that she’s used to celebrating and then, all of a sudden, here is someone potentially interfering on them / someone who doesn’t quite understand. We do think that it’s going to take a little bit of time in order for him to properly understand Christmas her way — but we’re hoping that there is still something fairly lighthearted at the end of it.
While we know that Lethal Weapon is a show where characters find themselves in almost-constant danger and there are some serious high stakes, we do think mixed in here, there will also be moments to be sentimental and reflective. One of the reasons the show does work is that they’re giving you a lot of different variables and genres mixed in to one package. While in some ways this show is firmly reliant on near-constant action, it also does have funny moments that add greater depth to the characters. Emphasizing some of these may actually be the thing that contributes to the long-term success more than anything else.
