The Little Drummer Girl season 2: Should you expect any more?
Obviously, we do want to start this article with a reminder that The Little Drummer Girl was plotted out to be a limited series for the folks over at the BBC, and we understand why. This series is an adaptation and because of that, it’s not so easy to just find a way to pick things up and immediately continue the series moving forward. There would have to be a new story and careful planning to have that happen in a way that makes a good bit of sense.
Speaking in a new interview via Metro, star Florence Pugh does make it clear that if she has it her way, she would love to come back and continue the journey of her main character Charlie in some capacity. Take a look at some of what she has to say right now:
“I don’t think this is the end for Charlie … I would love it if she grew and if we followed her again because she’s such an interesting character and by the end of the series she’s been through so much, and she’s dealt with so much for a normal person. I would love to see what happens next.”
We do think that there is at least somewhat of a roadmap to limited series being extended beyond the source material at this point. One great example of this is HBO’s Big Little Lies, which was renewed for a season 2 despite the first season covering the original story by Liane Moriarty. Meanwhile, another BBC series in The Night Manager has considered continuing the story for quite some time — it doesn’t appear as though we’re close to something happening there, but it’s probably going to continue floating around in the either for a rather-long time still moving forward.
Basically, there are a few orders of business that are required here in making sure that another season of The Little Drummer Girl happens. First, you have to make sure that the powers-that-be over at the BBC (and then AMC in America) want more. Beyond just that, the next order of business is making sure that you’ve got some competent scripts. Then, you have to make sure that the actors are all available. That’s not going to be the easiest thing in the world here when you think about this particular cast. Could you bring back Pugh separately from the rest of the main characters? Possibly, but we’re not sure that it would even be the same show in that case.
