The Affair season 5: At least this character is coming back…

In the post below via Twitter, it was made abundantly clear that Sanaa Lathan would be coming back to the Showtime series in the role of Janelle, the principal at the school Noah Solloway was working at and also the mother of Anton. Given everything that happened at the end of season 4 with Noah and Anton’s journey (which did not exactly go as expected with Alison’s death and all), it was hard to gauge precisely how either Anton or Janelle would come back.
Judging from Lathan’s post on Twitter alone, it does certainly seem as though there could be some sort of major time jump in the present-day story between seasons 4 and 5. After all, Janelle wouldn’t be growing that hair out overnight! We’re looking forward to seeing whatever her role could be on the show moving forward and, beyond just that, what sort of impact Janelle is going to have on Noah’s life in general.
The Affair season 5 seems to be telling a story about a wide array of different things, whether it be offering up closure to Helen and Noah or moving far into the future to see Joanie (Anna Paquin) try her best to get some closure as to what happened with her mother Alison so many years before. Clearly, the show’s not done when it comes to telling that story, but it is clear that they are doing it in a very different way moving forward.
There is no firm premiere date for The Affair season 5 at the moment, but all signs suggest that we’re going to get some more news on that in the spring. (Our feeling is that we’re going to be seeing the series back in the summer, or at least that’s what we are hoping based on the current filming timeline.)
In the end, consider this our closing thought on The Affair for the moment — it has this habit of giving us precisely what we need, even if that is not something that we really even recognize at the moment that we’re getting it.
