Daredevil canceled at Netflix; no season 4 coming for Charlie Cox series

Something is clearly off within the world of Marvel and Netflix — after all, Daredevil is officially no more, at least on the streaming service. The Charlie Cox series has officially been canceled after three seasons and a lot of attention … but we still cannot say that we’re shocked by this. Clearly, Netflix has decided that they don’t want to be in the business of Marvel Comics anymore … it’s either that or that Disney itself is interested in migrating its characters over to its Disney+ service down the line. Something is clearly off here, given that these series, years removed from premiering, all seem to be cut

At present, Daredevil officially joins Luke Cage and Iron Fist in getting canceled surprisingly early into its run. Jessica Jones and The Punisher are, at least at the moment, the only shows without an additional season.

In a statement (via Deadline), here is what the streaming service had to say:

“Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix … We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years.”

With all of this being said, it does appear as though the Daredevil character may be getting a second life elsewhere — check out what else Netflix had to say on that subject: “While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”

Clearly, this suggests to us that there may be larger plans to bring this character back elsewhere within the MCU, though we do wonder if that means Charlie Cox or a different actor will take on the role. We could say the same thing about Iron Fist and Luke Cage, though in general we wonder if these three are too dark of characters for Disney+ and its goal to be at least reasonably family-friendly.

In the end, color us shocked over the cancellation, and we’re absolutely still waiting to see if and when Jessica Jones and The Punisher also get the ax soon. We have to expect on some level that this is coming, right? It’s hard to imagine a different outcome now.
