Law & Order: SVU season 20: Ice T – Mariska Hargitay Tonight Show fun

Last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, there were a pair of Law & Order: SVU stars who stopped by in Ice T and Mariska Hargitay. We always love these sort of interviews, mostly because it allows for an opportunity to see these actors in a very different context to what we tend to see from them before.

Also, we learn in here that somehow, Ice had never eaten a bagel for the vast majority of his life. That recently changed due to a commercial that he did for a dating website, one where he claimed that it was like “biting into a loaf of bread.” Why have an unsweetened donut? That may be the best line of the whole thing, and we say this as someone who enjoys and appreciates bagels a good bit more than Ice seems to.

We also love the fact that a good two or three minutes of a late-night talk-show appearance (one in which time is sacred) is spent on a subject as silly and unimportant like bagels. Yet, all of this kind of works for the person we know Ice to be.

The rest of the interview is full of some fun moments, including Ice saying that he is going to stay on the show as long as Mariska does and the two discussing the overall legacy of their series. They also play a game of virtual-reality Pictionary at the end where Ice and Mariska team up against Jimmy Fallon and his other guest Macaulay Culkin. As it turns out, Fallon is not the best at making the Pictionary machine work for him — he went 0-for-2 in trying to get Culkin (or really anyone) to guess his designs. Yet, Ice was actually pretty artistic for his. Mariska got close presenting a fun interpretation of Snakes on a Plan, but the problem was that her version of a plane looked a little bit more like a shark. We do like seeing these actors in this sort of context and it’s really another sad reminder that for whatever reason, Mariska has never been asked to host Saturday Night Live. We understand that she’s busy filming for most of the sketch show’s season, but couldn’t she do one of the episodes in May after SVU wraps production? It seems like it’d be a great way to honor NBC’s longest-running show and one on the cusp of making history.

This entire preview is designed to lead into tonight’s new episode, which is going to be a complex story about an author and a secret between two older gentlemen played by Wallace Shawn and Judd Hirsch.
