The bad news at the moment is clearly this: There is no Criminal Minds on CBS tonight. This is a rare week off for the series, which has ran a number of new installments ever since the start of the season in October. Through those, we’ve had a chance to see one of the best runs that the show has ever had — so much so that we put in on our Golden Globes wishlist. What’s working with it more so than anything else is that you’re getting a number of different, interesting personal stories to go alongside the fundamental case-of-the-week plot. While we do understand that this is a vital component to every episode, we like that there’s something more than that happening. We also love that there are a number of cast members collaborating and getting more involved behind the scenes. It’s showing effectively that Criminal Minds is a family just as much as the BAU is.
When Criminal Minds returns, you’re going to have a chance to see a personal episode for Tara Lewis that is fittingly directed by Aisha Tyler — this was probably one of her busiest times since first joining the show, since she had to wear the actor and the director hat extensively. It’s not her first time behind the camera but we have to imagine that this is an experience she welcomed and would certainly welcome again moving into the future.
So what exactly will this episode reveal? Well, it turns out that Tara’s ex-husband may be shockingly involved in a case, and it’s one that could challenge her in a way that we haven’t quite seen in the past.
A sad thing to remember
We are over halfway through the fourteenth season already. It’s not a fantastic thing to think about but earlier this week, it was officially announced that CBS was going to move forward and not order additional episodes this season. As it turns out, episode 15 will be the season finale and possibly the series finale. Obviously, we hope that this is not the case but at this point, we really have to be prepared for right about anything.
If you love the show, just remember that your viewership is essential! This is really the only thing that is going to ensure that there will be a season 15 down the line. Just because there was no episode pickup does not doom the series to cancellation. There’s still time for it to state its case.
