Man with a Plan season 3, Nina Dobrev’s Fam land premiere dates

Man with a Plan

CBS has officially finalized their midseason scripted lineup, at least when it comes to comedies.

Let’s kick things off here with Man with a Planthe Matt LeBlanc series that keeps on going without getting a whole lot of buzz to its name. It was a last-minute renewal this past May, but it does have a loyal family audience and it will get a chance to prove itself come Monday, February 4 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time. It will be airing after new episodes of The Neighborhood, which the network already handed a full-season order to. Man with a Plan is replacing the struggling Happy Together on the air — it remains to be seen whether or not that show will be renewed for another season, but it seems unlikely based on the latest ratings. (Ream more about Happy Together and its possible future over at the link here.)

Meanwhile, CBS also confirmed today the official premiere date for Fam, which is the upcoming comedy series that is starring former The Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev. Take a look at the logline below:

Written by Corinne Kingsbury, Fam is about a woman whose dreams of an upstanding life with her new fiancé, Jay (Tone Bell), and his upstanding family are dashed when her train-wreck younger half sister (Odessa Adlon) comes to live with her to escape their train wreck of a father.

Fam begins on Thursday, January 10, where it will take the Thursday-night timeslot at 9:30 p.m. Eastern previously occupied by the Murphy Brown revival. That show is not officially canceled, but it may be on a little bit of thin ice after its ratings were a little bit less than what many expected in the early going. Nonetheless, it remains in consideration. Fam mostly just has the challenge of trying to appeal to a larger CBS demographic with a name that is somewhat nondescript. Midseason comedies do occasionally manage to find success, though, and the presence of Dobrev and her rather-large following could prove useful for CBS, who is looking to find some new ways to skew young. This series does offer up an opportunity to do this in a way that they haven’t quite had with many other programs over the years. (We feel like they attempted to do that with God Friended Me, but it hasn’t quite worked out as most of the show’s viewers do still skew a little bit older.)

As with most of their series, CBS is likely going to be waiting until we get around to the new year, potentially even May, before they start to announce some more news on any of their series.
