The Sinner season 3 still in consideration over at USA
Will The Sinner season 3 actually happen over at USA? It’s certainly something that we would like to see but at present, nothing is unfortunately confirmed.
According to a report from TVLine, another season for the anthology series is still being considered in some capacity, and we do personally hope that it officially does get the green light. While it seems as though season 2 is getting somewhat lost in the awards-show shuffle, we do think that there are cases to be made for both Bill Pullman and Carrie Coon as possible nominees. The format of the show also allows for there to be a whole lot more, provided that the right story here is assembled.
Our feeling on it at present is somewhat similar to what we’ve said about Fargo or True Detective in the past — there does not necessarily need to be one every single season. It’s okay to wait for a long time before giving another season a green light if that means giving everyone the best overall product. We also do think that we are in an era now where a lot of viewers are rather accustomed to having to wait a long time for more from their favorite shows in the first place. A good example of that is what HBO is doing now with the final season of Game of Thrones. If you have a good product, viewers will wait for you.
A decision on the future for The Sinner could be based in part on the ratings more so than any particular story, though, given that season 2 did suffer a drop versus season 1. We don’t think that a third season is necessarily going to slide further, but that could depend in part on both the story and also the casting of notable people. One of the big appeals for season 1 from the get-go was getting Jessica Biel on board both in front of the camera and behind it as an executive producer — it was her first TV role in quite some time and with that, there was a lot of enthusiasm to see what she would be like on this show. She remained involved behind the scenes on season 2, but did not make any significant on-camera contribution as a performer.
