Let’s start things off with a reminder that there are still many different stories that are still to be told on this season, given that we are basically now at the halfway point. Every season of This Is Us is 18 episodes, which is a lengthy specified mostly for one simple reason: It helps to ensure that the quality stays strong and nobody is completely overworked. Sometimes, less is more and that is almost certainly the case here.
Now, let’s get back to some of that return-date speculation. Our feeling is that This Is Us season 3 episode 10 is going to air on NBC in January, more than likely early on in the month. We imagine that there will be a full premiere date confirmed at some point after tonight’s episode wraps up, and we will have that for you here the moment it is confirmed. (Update: It is now officially coming back on January 15.)
As for what we imagine is coming up, there is likely a good bit more story to be told both in terms of timelines and also notable characters. Without giving anything away about the midseason finale, we heard earlier this season that there will be episodes coming up that spotlight the characters of Beth as well as Miguel. We’re hoping for some additional opportunities to get to know them and what they’ve gone through. Meanwhile, we also of course want to continue learning more about the present, and then there is that future, flash-forward timeline that was first introduced in the second season. Do you really think that NBC is going to abandon that completely? We have a hard time imagining that.
As for specifics, it’s fair to say that the main event moving forward is going to be seeing whatever is coming down the road with Nicky, given that it strongly appears as though the character is alive based on what we saw in the closing minutes. This is a game-changer and something that could significantly alter almost everything that is coming up for the show. We have to imagine that Kevin will work to track him down, and there could be some even more big surprises that are coming a little bit later on down the road.
