Doctor Who season 11 episode 8 ratings solid, X Factor UK even

Sunday nights are certainly rather busy within the world of British television, and that’s why the ratings are absolutely worth taking a closer look at.

Let’s kick things off this time around with the numbers for Doctor Who season 11 episode 9. After all, last night’s new installment ended up generating in total around 6 million viewers, which continues to show some of this season’s strength. While the numbers are down somewhat versus prior seasons, it’s nothing to be 100% worried about at the moment. They are still better than for some other recent seasons, so much so that it renders much of the criticism useless. (A lot of British press are trying to stir the pot publishing stories that there are too many politically-correct stories this year, or that the series has become too preachy.)

To date, we don’t know how you categorize Doctor Who season 11 has anything other than a massive win. It has seen its viewership on the rise and beyond just that, there’s more media promotion than there has been in ages. While we understand that there is no guarantee that the numbers will continue moving forward, Jodie Whittaker and the remainder of the cast do have something to feel rather great about at the moment.

What’s happening elsewhere?

With The X Factor UK, we do think that ITV has to be reasonably satisfied. Last night’s new episode (per TellyMix) drew an average audience of around 4.6 million viewers, which is on par with what it was generating last year. This is not an era where the singing show is a dominant force anymore, but if it does continue to draw ratings about four million, it absolutely does justify its existence on the air.

The series that is really winning out at the moment is I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!, which is generating some of its best ratings in years. It has seen some episodes this season post north of ten million viewers, which is yet another reminder that when you’ve got a great cast, there are a lot of things that can happen in terms of your commercial success.

Next weekend marks the end of the line for The X Factor, so in some ways, ITV is going to need to have to take whatever they can with the ratings now. After all, they are not going to be around to have some of these numbers through much of the month of December!
