Luther season 5 premiere date announcement: Is it coming soon?
At the moment, the folks over at BBC One seem to be equally eager to tease the return of Idris Elba to the small screen — how else do you explain the teaser below? Everything seems to be coming up roses for the show at the moment. Elba was recently named the Sexiest Man Alive, there’s a little bit of footage out there, and in the absence of a ton of AAA holiday titles, why not take advantage of the gap in the market? This is the perfect time for more Luther and judging from the wording the network recently handed out, we like to think that a premiere-date announcement is soon.
How soon/ Well, there’s something that you really should know here: The BBC has a tendency to wait until the last minute to announce premiere dates for their shows. Don’t be shocked if they don’t announce the return date for Luther until a couple of weeks before it arrives. As for some of the ideal time windows, we’ve got a couple of different suggestions…
Mid-December – Why not air the series during the holiday season? We don’t think that this is a bad idea at all since there’s less on the air elsewhere. Also, the BBC has a tendency to air multiple episodes of a show a week. With that in mind, it’s certainly possible that the series could premiere on December 9, for example, and then be finished before December 20 rolls around.
New Year’s Day – There’s an interesting strategy that the network may be considering here. They’ve certainly made January 1 an interesting launching-pad for their shows in the past — this is when Sherlock premiered on the network for many years, and we already know that this is when Doctor Who is coming back with new episodes. Why not go ahead and make January 1 into even more of a television event?
Of course, more than anything else, we just want more Luther. We’ve waited a long time in order to see season 5, but based on some of the rumors that are out there, all signs point towards it being very much a worthwhile wait. We’re hopefully going to have a number of big surprises, especially if some of the rumors out there are true. (The less we say about some of that, the better off we’ll be.) We’re not going to even bother focusing on whether or not this could be the final season anymore, largely because every other time that we’ve felt like we’re near the end, the network has found a way to come out and then surprise us.
