So where have you seen this choir before? If you’re a longtime fan of America’s Got Talent, there is a good chance you remember this group. Choirs tend to fare reasonably well on the series and, with that in mind, we did think that they would fare extremely well doing the Anthem in advance. This is one of the biggest National Anthem platforms over the course of the year, especially since it is Thanksgiving and a greater percentage of viewers out there are probably paying attention on some level. We’ve certainly seen a number of questionable performances over the years, but we certainly didn’t think that this would be a bad one. We ultimately had plenty of reason to be confident moving into the game.
So how was the rendition? At was just as powerful as you would have expected, and we also love the fact that the entire choir was decked out in blue and silver, the official colors of the team. It was also a fairly straightforward rendition of the anthem, which is not necessarily something that we expected when you think about how much creativity some people try to take with the anthem over the years. They kept things at least reasonably by the book, or at least they did until the very end. (We’re not sure that they hit the note at the very end, but this was still a nice, memorable performance of the anthem. We do like that Detroit went with something a little different in a choir.)
Expect to see another memorable national anthem a little bit later, as you’re going to end up seeing probably a memorable one before the Dallas Cowboys game. Thanksgiving football is a huge celebration that happens every year and if you are a Lions fame, you’re probably used to watching it and enjoying the game amidst easting some turkey and all sorts of other good stuff. (We should point out that there are some memorable Halftime Shows coming up — for the Lions game, you will see Mike Posner help to lead a performance with his band.)
Alas, you won’t see Selected of God perform on America’s Got Talent: The Champions, the AGT spin-off show that is airing on NBC starting in the new year.
