Homecoming season 2: Could Julia Roberts return for more?
According to a new report from TVLine, Roberts does not currently have a deal in place to return for another season. Note that this does not mean that she is leaving, but it is certainly something that is still curious given her fantastic performance in season 1. Heidi could have a story still to come, though the memory-wiping near the end of the first season does leave open some questions as to what the future for this character could be. Meanwhile, it does seem as though Sam Esmail and the producers are hoping to bring Bobby Cannavale back, provided that there is room in his schedule in order for it to happen.
While there are some major disadvantages to Homecoming having potentially a big turnover from one season to the next, there is also one pretty-clear advantage at the same time: An element of surprise. This is a story that is moving in whatever direction it sees fit, and that is probably not dependent on any one particular star. (Granted, Roberts is still one of the strongest performers out there.)
What we just hope over the months to come is that there are some more opportunities for the show to shine, and for viewers to figure out precisely what it is. We don’t think that Homecoming has really reached its peak audience yet, and we have a feeling in turn that Amazon will continue to push for it to find some more viewers over the weeks to come. Even this week, we saw the streaming provider push for it with a promoted tweet on social media.
New episodes of Homecoming will hopefully premiere on Amazon at some point next year, though that is not necessarily guaranteed. We’ll have some more news on it as we get a little bit closer, but presumably, we are still many months out from Amazon making any sort of formal announcement. After all, why in the world would they choose to do so at this point? There’s still so much time for them to figure out where they want to take the series next.
(Remember, if you do want to see a season 3 of Homecoming down the road, one of the best things that you can do is continue to watch the series and support it. The more streams it gets, the better off it will be later.)
