New Amsterdam episode 9 (fall finale): Is Max ready to take a risk?

Want to know what’s coming on New Amsterdam episode 9? Let’s just say that Max may, finally, be forced to put himself first. Through the better part of this season, he’s done his best to ignore it. As a matter of fact, he’s even done his best to run away from it so that he can help a number of other people instead. He’s done more or less everything that he can in order to ensure that he can help other people; yet, in the process, it’s not altogether clear if he is ever going to help himself.

Sooner or later, we are going to get to the point that the character is running out of time — as a matter of fact, we may be almost there already. This character is facing a really tough journey and as it goes along, it’s only going to get tougher.

11/27/2018 (10:01PM – 11:00PM) (Tuesday) : Max (Ryan Eggold) convinces Dr. Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) to take a risk on his course of treatment and Bloom (Janet Montgomery) grapples with a difficult conversation. Meanwhile, Dr. Kapoor (Anupam Kher) considers helping his son in a big way after some advice from a friend. Also starring Tyler Labine as Dr. Iggy Frome and Jocko Sims as Dr. Floyd Reynolds. TV-14 D, L

The story is mostly at this point about whether or not Max can be convinced to actually listen to the people who matter and care about him. We’ve heard him say that he’s willing to accept treatment, but at the same time the guy has cleverly found a way to escape it, time and time again. This is going to be the episode that makes or breaks things for this character, not just when it comes to his life, but also in just about every single part of it. Given that we are near the end of the show’s fall run, it’s fair to imagine that almost everything that we’ve seen is building towards something that is epic and potentially devastating. Be prepared to have some of your tissues on standby.

This gives you a little bit more of a sense as to what’s coming, including a devastating case for Max that brings him back to his roots. This entire hour will be a personal crisis for him like no other and, when the dust settles, we just hope that it offers offers up some answers as to where things are going. Based on the fact that it is the fall finale, though, we anticipate some surprises as the very end.
