Going into Bosch season 5, there is officially no reason to worry about the show’s long-term future.
Today, Amazon confirmed that their long-running crime series starring Titus Welliver is going to be officially coming back for a sixth season. Given that the fifth season (which is nearing the end of production) will be starting up in 2019, it’s fair to assume that this is going to air in 2020. The early renewal does give the writers time to plan things out and ensure that they have the best story possible moving forward.
In a statement confirming the news, Amazon Studios’ co-head of television Albert Chang had the following to say:
“’Bosch’ is a customer and critical favorite and Amazon Prime members are fans of this long-running series that delivers strong storytelling, complex characters, and exceptional performances … We are happy to continue to work with Fabrik, Michael Connelly, and the rest of the team on this artful procedural drama.”
How long could a series like Bosch last?
The good news there is that there is really no conceivable end in site for the series. It could last however long everyone involved really wants it to last since there will always be more cases for Bosch to take on in Los Angeles. All indications are that Bosch is delivering season after season of great television that Amazon subscribers want to sign up for; beyond that, this is one of the series’ main flagship shows. It’s been around for them almost from the onset of their original programming and more and more viewers have become aware of it over time. If you haven’t seen it we highly recommend it! Welliver is compelling as Bosch and this show does a great job of not only giving us great cases to dive into, but also some deeper personal struggles for the Bosch character as well. We’ve been long saying that Amazon is easily at the top of the streaming game with their programming right now in between Bosch, Sneaky Pete, Goliath, Absentia, Jack Ryan and most recently Homecoming which is easily the best new show of the year and it’s not even close.
For now, we’re just grateful that the sixth-season renewal is coming so early and that any and all concerns can be thrown completely out the window for some time.
Is this the part of the article where we throw out crazy ideas? Well, we do think that a Bosch / Goliath crossover would be really awesome since it would be two great case-based Amazon procedural shows thrown into the same orbit. Check out more on our thoughts on this at the link here.
As for Bosch season 5…
More than likely, Amazon is going to hand down a premiere date, plus some more information regarding what is coming up next, when it comes around to the new year — the same goes for getting a chance to actually check out an official promo. Typically new seasons premiere around April, and that’s probably going to be the case this time around, as well.
