The Conners episode 5 preview: Shocking news arrives in ‘Miracles’

Next week, The Conners episode 5 is going to be bringing you what may be the most important story we’ve seen since the premiere. That episode officially wrote out the character of Roseanne Conner. Moving forward now, it appears as though there could be some actual good news. The title for this installment is “Miracles,” and typically you don’t entitle an episode that unless there is some genuinely good news to report on. That doesn’t mean that there will be good news everywhere, but at least there is a reason for someone out there to smile.

Life-changing news lands in the Conner household when a member of the family makes an announcement that no one saw coming. Meanwhile, Dan is suspicious that Becky isn’t sticking to her end of the deal when it comes to her drinking. Darlene continues her job search, and Jackie offers English lessons to a Casita Bonita busboy in need.

So what could this surprise be?

Typically, “life-changing news” involves either a change in relationship status or a pregnancy. That’s something that could happen here and be a reference to the episode’s title. As we explore further this story, we could get a little bit more insight as to how this event happens and certainly what it means for the future. If it’s an announcement “no one saw coming,” we can’t imagine that there was a whole lot of planning that went into it. This is a show about life, after all, and sometimes life sends you in some fairly-unexpected directions.

With that in mind, a big “life” story also seems to be coming to what’s ahead with Becky and her drinking. Even if she may have been committed to her cause at one point, it’s harder to keep a natural ebb and flow there. It’s a life-long struggle that she is going to have to contend with and it remains to be seen what will eventually come down the line — depending, of course, on just how much in general The Conners is planning to explore this story the rest of the season.

Basically, The Conners is going to bring a little bit of everything in terms of tone and substance in this episode. Fingers crossed much of it pays off.
