Next week, God Friended Me episode 8 is going to be throwing Miles and his rag-tag group of friends into a tricky spot. Typically, the God Account suggests a friend to them who is need of saving in some way; that’s when they spring into action in hopes of making the world a better place.

Yet, what happens when the name they receive is that of a dead man? How do they help that person? Well, it may be about helping the man’s reputation or maybe making sure that someone close to him is okay. We’ve come to learn that this God Account works in mysterious ways … which does sometimes mean that its not altogether forthcoming with its intentions. It’s kind of hard when all you really do is send over a name.

Below, CarterMatt has the God Friended Me episode 8 synopsis with some additional information all about what’s coming up:

“Matthew 621” – The “God” account sends Miles the profile of a lawyer who died six months ago, leading him, Cara and Rakesh to dig into the man’s past in order to figure out who exactly they’re supposed to help. Also, Miles asks Nia (Victoria Janicki) on a date; Rakesh and Lucy (Abby Awe), his hacker friend, continue searching for the person behind the “God” account; and Ali encourages Arthur to play his saxophone publicly for the first time since his wife died, on GOD FRIENDED ME, Sunday, Nov. 18 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

For those who are wondering, Matthew 6:21 is a verse reading “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” That may be a clue as to what this episode is really about — it’s about valuing the things most important to you, and sometimes, treasure is not always defined by dollar signs. There is sometimes something more at play.

This episode, aside from the story-of-the-week component, could prove especially important when it comes to relationships. It marks a chance to see if Miles and Nia are anything at all and if Arthur can start to take another step forward following the death of his wife. We are still firmly in the Miles / Cara camp, for those wondering — but do you really think that a show like this is going to want to go there this early in its run? That just doesn’t feel altogether likely. That’s more like a season 2 or an “oh crap, we have to do this now because the show is about to be canceled” kinda move.
