Ray Donovan season 6 episode 3 video: Can Ray handle Mickey & Sam?
Going into this episode, it seems as though Ray is officially all-in when it comes to working with Sam Winslow. He gotten through some of what he needed to, shaved at least part of his beard, and he seems to be more prepared and professional than he has in a while. He’s also got himself a rather-specific goal: Doing everything within his power to help Anita, the Mayoral candidate who is far behind in the polls (and also responsible for a man’s death). This situation is going to be a complicated one.
For the time being, the strategy for Ray and Sam should be pretty linear: Find a way in order to ensure that the poll numbers go up. Help to encourage Anita to say and do the right things and worry about some larger scandals that could come down the line. They really do have to take things one step at a time given that if they don’t, there is a fairly good chance that the entire campaign could fall apart. They may never have to deal with the fallout of the body in a severe way … though that seems unlikely given the way that this show likes to throw haymakers when you least suspect them. Right when you start to imagine that you are on the other side and breathing a little bit easier, everything falls apart.
If Ray was just able to focus on the job, he’d probably get it done without question. The problem for Ray here is that he is never able to focus on the job. There is always something else out there that he ends up having to give some attention to. This time around, it is going to be inevitably Mickey, who seems to be heading in his direction after escaping prison.
What in the world is Mickey up to? Does he have some crazy inclination to play with fire? It feels that way. If we were Mickey, the last place that we would go after busting out of prison is somewhere that a million-odd people could see and recognize you at almost any moment. It seems to be far more practical to take off somewhere that you can float under-the-radar … or just go head up to the woods with Dexter Morgan. That seems to be the world’s greatest hiding place for criminals.
