As anyone who has family knows, Thanksgiving is a tricky holiday (except in the Carter household where this year we got a turkey for .37 cents a pound!). There are often many fantastic moments and warm memories, but then there is also that one time your uncle eats all of the stuffing or your parents start going on controversial rants that lead to shouting matches. This stuff happens, and there could be some unique drama for Grover along the way next week. There’s no guarantee it’ll be anything like what we’ve just mentioned, but at least there are some fun guest stars on board! You’re going to be seeing Louis Gossett Jr. as well as Gladys Knight in this episode as Grover’s parents, and just seeing them alone makes this episode well worth the price of admission. Getting Knight on board in particular is continuing the awesome Five-0 tradition of finding people in the music world for stellar acting jobs. Look at Nick Jonas and Jimmy Buffett as other examples.
Below, we have the Hawaii Five-0 season 9 episode 8 synopsis with some other information on what’s ahead:
“Lele pū nā manu like” – Thanksgiving brings Grover’s parents (guest stars Louis Gossett Jr. and Gladys Knight) and brother Percy, Jr. (Clifton Powel) to Oahu for a visit tainted by sibling rivalry, and Five-0 investigates a thief who is crushed to death by an empty safe, on HAWAII FIVE-0, Friday, Nov. 16 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Episode is written by series star Chi McBride.
Could there be some fun within the case-of-the-week plot? Well, “fun” seems like a weird way to describe a story that begins with someone being crushed to death by a safe. Yet, this does feel like a case that could go down in the stupid-criminal record books, mostly because if you’re going to go through all of the effort to try to commit a robbery like this, shouldn’t you at least make certain that there is something in the safe first? Unless someone else beat you to it, that feels like a pretty logical thing to do.
