Supergirl season 4 photo: First look at Superman, Lois Lane together!

Lois Lane

While we may have gotten a brief tease in the past of Elizabeth Tulloch in the role of Lois Lane already, today, Supergirl finally revealed something a little more official.

The image above is the first promotional photo of Lois together with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), seemingly here inside the Fortress of Solitude. Lois is going to turn up as a part of the upcoming December crossover event Elseworlds, which is one of the coolest and most-ambitious stories that the series has ever done. While the precise nature of this story still remains reasonably unclear, there are a few different things that we have figured out already. For starters, Stephen Amell is playing The Flash while Grant Gustin is going to be the Green Arrow. Also, Superman will be at one point sporting his infamous black suit and you’re also going to have a super-cool opportunity in order to see the John Wesley Shipp version of The Flash return in some capacity.

Oh, and did we mention that Ruby Rose’s Batwoman is also a part of this crossover? We feel like that hasn’t received as much buzz as of late even though it was the original push for the crossover to begin with. We just don’t know how the writers are going to be able to cram so many great characters into three hours when there’s so much we want to know. With Lois, for example, it would be wonderful to find out more about her as a reporter, how she could be a mentor for Kara, and how the relationship that she has with Clark Kent works. It’s not easy presumably being with someone in near-constant danger, but somehow they find a way to make it happen.

Even if Elseworlds does somehow short-change Lois Lane (which we don’t think that they will), the good thing is that there are about a million or so different ways she could come back in the future. Supergirl, and really the entire Arrowverse at this point, have such a deep bench that they can be used or re-used in just about any way the writers choose. It’s easy to expect that Kara may need to visit Metropolis in the future, especially given the news that a certain Lex Luthor will actually be introduced as a character later this season. Don’t you think it would benefit Supergirl to fly over to her cousin’s city to do a little bit of recon work?

While you wait for Elseworlds, remember that Supergirl is continuing to air new episodes on The CW Sunday nights at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. For some other news on what’s ahead, be sure to visit the link here.
